Kyrgyzstan Travel Words Burana Tower in Kyrgyzstan Written by Stephen on March 8, 2013 Burana Tower, in the grassy nowhere outside the Kyrgyz village of Tokmok. Now, the ‘old city’ ruins are a bit of a bust. The old-school Turkic gravestones, though, are actually pretty interesting. Especially getting up close, to see the level of detail that still exists on these thousands of years old carvings. Of course, you’ve gotta climb the tower right? Do it a bit sneakily, and you can probably even evade the babushka lurking nearby who wants to charge you admission fees. So, it may not be the most amazing bit of trip you’ve ever taken. But with pretty mountain views, a touch of history, and some good company? Definitely worthwhile. And even if you are, there are always other amusements nearby.This little mantis kept me amused for minutes. Now, there aren’t a ton of busses that hit the road that runs past the Burana Tower. Do a little bit of walking and ride-requesting on the way home, though, and you might eventually get to do some bonus shooting courtesy of the local farming community.
