Diving Sipadan

While Mabul was nice, the real reason we were in the area was to dive Sipadan island.  Described by Jacques Cousteau as an “untouched piece of art” and raved about by divers I’ve met all over the place, Sipadan was at the top of the list of places to go while in Borneo.

The amazing and very different aspect that makes Sipadan so special is that only a short swim offshore, the reef wall drops almost vertically for about a kilometer and a half.  The amount of sealife living in the mix is incredible, and made for easily the best diving I’ve done.

Highlights, in pictures from across the internet:

Most of the sharks we saw were about this size. Around 25 or so throughout the day.
turtle
Green Turtle. Enough sightings to make them boring!
Flamboysant cuttlefish
Flamboyant Cuttlefish, very rare and exciting.
