Enchanted Rock State Natural Area
A little history, a little legend, and quite a lot of opportunity for adventure. That’s Enchanted Rock. It’s one of the best weekend getaways in Texas by a long shot – an easy weekend out of Austin or San Antonio to revel in nature and relax in beautiful surroundings.
Though the specific importance of the distinction escapes me, this is Enchanted Rock State Natural Area as opposed to a state park. Maybe Governor Perry just felt himself unable to commit to the full shebang?
Regardless of the name, though, the area seems quite popular among the hiking and climbing crowds. On busy summer days, I’m told, the park area staff will actually close the gate to new arrivals because the expansive parking facilities get full to the brim.
Having hiked some of the trails around the Enchanted Rock and of course climbed to the top, I can definitely see the appeal. It strikes me as a great place to go to get a little taste of the Texas Hill country, and yet isn’t more than an hour away from Aunt and Uncle’s house.
It is a bit of an uphill to the top, though, so be prepared to wait for the old folks in your party! 😉
Great pics! That hike looks like a lot of fun! 🙂
Yea dude, it was a surprisingly good place. I”m looking forward to going back there and doing some camping next time I’m in the US.
