Kyaiktyio
High above the plains of SouthEastern Myanmar…
At the top of a ridge lined with monasteries and pagados…
The Golden Rock.
Simultaneous object of veneration and tourist attraction for pilgrims of origins both near and far.
I highly recommend the ascent for dawn.
I enjoy your blog! This particular post drew my attention because I will be traveling to Myanmar in January and hoping that I’ll have enough time to visit Kyaiktiyo.
Thanks! If you make it there, I highly suggest the overnight walk to the top for dawn. It was a bit of a hike, but totally worth it.
Like a huge gold nugget that never falls down!
I remember a TV show I saw in my childhood. Ever since, from time to time I’m thinking of visiting this place. Still, it remains a dream… one day, I’ll explore Burma/Myanmar.
It was a very cool country, though I’ve heard tourism has REALLY taken off there over the last year or two. If you go, try to get somewhere as remote as possible – its an interesting is not always easy experience.
Must be full of insects and snakes. And malaria and dengue…
All the most exciting parts of travel!
