Istanbul’s Süleymaniye Mosque

Istanbul’s Süleymaniye Mosque

Süleymaniye Camii is a little out of the way, but I love it. The neighborhood is beautiful if a little run-down, the building itself is awe-inspiring, and I seem to run into cool and interesting people in the area.

Like SO many neighborhoods in Istanbul, this really is a delightful area to walk through. This one just happens to be a more obvious draw than most, given the giant hilltop mosque that crowns the area.

It isn’t hard to get a cab up here or just walk from the Aksaray tram stop. If you’d be more comfortable going with a guide, though, I was impressed with this tour and the guide who ran it. (Note, I was on the tour to take pictures for that website. In fact, you might notice a striking similarity between some of the photos in this post and on that page!)
