Port of the Conquerers

Light up in the House
Venetan Lighthouse in Chania’s harbor.

Stop and think for a moment about all the civilizations who have controlled the harbor city of Chania:

– Byzantine.

– Ancient Venetians.

– Ottoman Turks.

– Cretean self-rule.

– Royal Greece.

– Nazi Germany.

– Modern Greece.

Old Town Chania.

Ottoman minarets, Greek Orthodox churches, and Venetian fortifications all mix and mingle into one lovely diverse whole. The one question must ask myself: why didn’t I spend more time down here with a camera?!
