Gone Shopping in Dubai

Dubai is a huge destination for commercial travel, that is, making a special trip just to buy clothes and goods and anything you can imagine at cheaper prices. At the Gold Souk in particular, I was assured by a number of people that well-to-do Indian families fly to Dubai for the express purpose of purchasing jewelry at significantly better rates than they could find at home. I didn’t do a whole lot of shopping in Dubai, but I did pick up this little gem of a souvenir:

Looking for a hookah and shisha in the souks of Dubai was itself a bit of fun, and taking it with me on to Sri Lanka and the beaches of Indonesia totally justified the cost and weight. Conveniently I was staying with a good host who knew his way around the city, so he was able to point me towards a good place to buy a hookah and then stock up on coals and shisha. If you’re coming in without any guidance, though, you could consider taking a tour that incorporates shopping as part of a day of activities. To do it even fancier, though, you also have the option of a personalized shopping tour of the city! There are plenty of things to do in the UAE. If shopping in Dubai is your ideal way to spend time, well, then you’re welcome to it and in the right place!
