Heading towards the east side of Crete to begin hiking the E4 trail, I was under the impression that the city of Sitia was somewhere on the radar of pretty big tourist destinations on the island.
I ended up having to crash for a night here to wait for an early morning bus down to the Kato Zakros area, and was excited to be able to check out a place I’d not expected to get to. It was… quiet.
Aside from some couples drinking coffee in the waterfront cafes, the most exciting thing I found was this Russian sailor fishing off the dock near his boat.
I headed back to my hotel, enjoyed the balcony’s view for a bit, and then repacked my bag to leave for hiking the next day. Not the most exciting city in Crete, perhaps, but an easy stopover nonetheless.
